Foundations I: Polyphony

This 62 page document, complete with sheet music, tablature, and chord charts, is the first in a series of core texts covering Dr Thomas Echols’ Labyrinth of Limitations approach to jazz improvisation, inspired by the great Barry Harris. This first volume is focused on the fundamentals of polyphonic practice.

The text is divided into 2 sections: Theory and Practice. The Theory section provides you with the essential concepts and necessary context for polyphonic improvisation, including an introduction to the Four Scales of Chords in a musically meaningful way. The Practice section provides guidance on the seven core skills to practice on daily basis, building up your linguistic muscle memory for fluid improvisation. Also included is a “level 1” daily practice routine for you to master the concepts in the book.

It is perfect for beginners and those who have been following the Labyrinth of Limitations approach from the beginning.
